Story of the day so far is the Southeast girls’ 4×100-meter relay team does not qualify in the Class 6A finals after a dropped hand-off. Southeast’s Jeff Conner wins the Class 6A boys’ discus with a toss of 168-5, which beat out heavy favorites from Manhattan. McPherson’s Adam Porter out-kicks Hays’ Josh Munsch for the Class 5A boys’ 3200-meter run title. El Dorado’s Molly Milbourn wins the Class 4A girls’ 3200-meter run going away. Kapaun’s Mackenzie Maki wins back-to-back Class 5A girls’ 3200-meter run title’s. Wichita Heights edged Derby for the top qualifying time in the Class 6A boys’ 4×100-meter relay. Lawrence Free State’s Drue Davis set a Class 6A state record with a winning vault of 12-6 in the girls’ pole vault. Paola swept the top three on the podium stand for the Class 4A shot put. Kapaun’s Emily Cook fouls two of her three throws and finishes ninth in the Class 5A girls’ discus. Mulvane’s Evan Landes can’t catch up to Abilene’s James Wilson in the Class 4A boys’ 3200-meter run. Derby’s Neil Metler falls to eighth in the Class 6A boys’ 3200-meter run. Newton’s Tyler Rambo fouls out on all three of his throws in the boys’ shot put.
