Wichita State lefty Charlie Lowell threw 35 pitches in a scrimmage Tuesday at Eck Stadium. Everything felt fine and Lowell should pitch out of the bullpen this weekend against Missouri State. His return is the best news for the pitching staff in a long time. "It was a little tight here and there, but it felt pretty normal," he said. "I thought I had pretty good stuff. I was spotting up all right, a little rust." The likely path for Lowell is a short relief outing this weekend and another next week against Oral Roberts or Dallas Baptist. He would like to start in the MVC Tournament. Lowell had not pitched since coming out of a game at Evansville on April 4 with tightness in his forearm. "He's not going to go out and give you four or five innings right out of the chute," WSU pitching coach Brent Kemnitz said. "The bullpen is a good starting place."
