Kansas City Star columnist Mary Sanchez offered Kris Kobach a backhanded defense as she urged Hispanics not to try to get him fired or otherwise demoted at the University of Missouri at Kansas City over his role in writing Arizona's new ID-check law. "By all accounts, Kobach is a solid law professor," Sanchez wrote. "If he wants to add to his resume that he's one reason Phoenix loses out as host of baseball's All-Star Game, that's his choice." She added: "People opposed to his views should ask: Where can Kobach do the least damage? I say keep him at the law school and out of the Kansas secretary of state's job (an office he plans to seek). UMKC law students should hear and debate his positions. All the better for academia."
