The temperature came close to dropping below zero in Wichita earlier this month – but never actually got there.
Not officially, at least.
The recording station next to Mid-Continent Airport logged 6 for the low on January 7, 1 for January 8, 0 for January 9 and 2 for January 10.
Not one of those readings set a record, by the way.
As forecasters told me more than once during that cold snap earlier this month, it’s awfully hard for temperatures in Wichita to fall below zero unless there’s snow on the ground.
