Best Game: East at Southeast
What makes this game so intriguing is that these teams are so different. Southeast has good offensive players, but the Buffaloes’ defense is what they’re known for. Seniors Jordan Saybounkham and Manny Miranda are fierce defenders and keeper Merrick Rhodes has 108 saves and a 1.12 goals-against average.
For East, i’s offense was the reason many of the City League coaches felt it was the team to beat. Oliver Bradwell (21 points) and Jorge Rodriguez (18 points) are one of best scoring tandems in the area. East also has Joseph Yun, who missed the first game because of an injury.
I think Southeast has a slight advantage because of its defense, but East could pull it out if it finds its offensive rhythm early.
Possible upset: Northwest over Dodge City
Northwest finished second in the City League and ended the regular season playing well. The Grizzlies allowed only one goal to Maize and tied Manhattan, two of the best teams in the state. If Northwest can get a score early and limit Dodge City’s scoring chances, it could be a happy trip back to Wichita.
