Wichita Heights junior Evan Wessel has one scholarship offer for basketball, from Wichita State. Needless to say, Wessel, a 6-foot-3 guard, is just starting to figure out his college plans. WSU coaches e-mailed Heights coach Joe Auer with the offer on Thursday. “I’m honored that they offered me a scholarship,” he said. “I like the program. I’ve been to their games. I like what their program has to offer.” Evan Wessel says staying close to home is something he will consider. He likes the idea of playing where family can watch. WSU coach Gregg Marshall is making his usual indelible impression with his passion. “I like that,” Wessel said. “He is very enthusiastic and he knows what he’s doing.” Ev Wessel, Evan’s grandfather, played for the Shockers on some of coach Ralph Miller’s early teams. Ev Wessel is deceased.
