  • Last remaining speaker of the Wichita language dies at 89

Doris Jean Lamar-McLemore was the last remaining person who could fluently speak the native language of the Wichita Indians. She died on Tuesday in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Lamar-McLemore worked to preserve the language in the latter years of her life by writing it down and recording it. (File video by Travis Heying/The Wichita Eagle)
