Perry Ellis, a rising sophomore at Heights, received a scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky said his mother, Fonda Ellis.
John Calipari, Kentucky’s new basketball coach, also offered Ellis while coaching at Memphis last season.
The 6-foot-8 Ellis is the reigning Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year averaging 19.2 points and 11.7 rebounds as a freshman.
Never miss a local story.
This should have been expected. Calipari was going hard for Ellis at Memphis. It’s only fitting that he’d do the same at Kentucky, where the tradition and resources are more abundant.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. I don’t expect Ellis to make a commitment this early. And even if he does, it doesn’t take much for a coveted recruit to make a move elsewhere. If you don’t believe me, look at what’s going down with Xavier Henry, a top-recruit in this year’s class.
