Damage to Wichita school buildings as a result of straight-line winds during a storm last week may exceed $175,000, district officials said.
School board members on Monday will consider a request to authorize $175,000 from the district’s emergency fund to begin repairs at several buildings, including six schools in northeast Wichita – Gammon, Jackson, Mueller, Brooks, Stucky and Northeast Magnet High School.
The overall cost of storm damage from April 3 is “yet to be determined as not all locations have been assessed,” according to an item on Monday’s board agenda.
Don D. Rutherford & Sons Inc. has begun repairs. District officials are requesting $175,000 to begin repairs, “with the understanding that additional monies will be requested as necessary,” according to the document.
