San Pablo homicide accidental; suspect handled gun recklessly, Wichita police say
A 21-year-old man died after he was accidentally shot by a relative or family friend who lived in the same home, Wichita police said Friday.
The 21-year-old had a single gun shot wound to the head when police arrived shortly after 8:40 p.m. Thursday to the 800 block of South San Pablo. That’s between Woodlawn and Rock Road near Lincoln.
A 19-year-old man later turned himself in and was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder because he was handling the gun recklessly, according to Wichita police Lt. Jeff Gilmore.
“Someone died as a result of that person’s actions,” Gilmore said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and not transported to a hospital.
There was a third person at the house, a juvenile, who witnessed the shooting. He is either a relative or family friend of the suspect and victim, police said.
