A 23-year-old man died Saturday night following a shooting near 13th and Vesta, according to Wichita police.
Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said in an e-mail Sunday that police responded to an area in the 3900 block of East 13th Street at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. Officers found the man with multiple gunshot wounds and he was pronounced dead shortly after medics arrived, Woodrow said.
Sgt. Jamie Crouch said at the scene that the man was shot in a crowded parking lot and that a suspect in a vehicle sped away from the area following the shooting.
Woodrow said investigators worked through the night, interviewing witnesses and processing the scene, but that no suspect information was available as of about 10 a.m. on Sunday. The parking lot is between Oliver and Hillside.
Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area at about 7:25 p.m. on Saturday to contact police investigators or call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
More details are expected to be released during a regular police media briefing on Monday, Woodrow said.
