An afternoon shooting near downtown Wichita has left one person injured on Sunday.
Wichita police received a call at about 1:15 p.m. on Sunday about a shooting in the 300 block of South Handley, between Douglas and Maple, west of downtown.
Sgt. Joe Kennedy said a 29-year-old man was shot once in the arm during an altercation with a 42-year-old man. The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, although his injury was not expected to be life-threatening, Kennedy said.
The shooting was not random, Kennedy said, and there was not a concern for public safety. The incident happened a few blocks from Wichita’s annual Riverfest celebration.
