An 18-year-old man died after he was shot at a birthday party in south Wichita.
Joseph Seabolt was driven to Wesley Hospital at around 1:50 a.m. Thursday with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen, said Wichita police Lt. Jason Stephens. Seabolt later died at the hospital.
Police learned from the people who drove Seabolt to the hospital that the shooting happened in a duplex in the 1600 block of South Emporia, near Harry.
Stephens said several people were involved in the incident, which occurred at a party that spanned two duplexes.
“They were celebrating a birthday,” Stephens said.
Manuel Trotter, 21, was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling.
Seabolt and Trotter were roommates in one of the two duplexes, Stephens said.
There was no indication the shooting was gang-related, he said. This is the 17th homicide this year in Wichita.
