Fundraiser for program that helps female former inmates set for Aug. 16

A program that mentors and helps find jobs and housing for homeless women recently released from prison will hold its third annual fundraising dinner Aug. 16.

A program that mentors and helps find jobs and housing for homeless women recently released from prison will hold its third annual fundraising dinner Aug. 16.

The spaghetti supper, benefiting New Life Reentry Program, starts at 7 p.m. at the Hyde Park shelter building, 201 S. Greenwood in Wichita.

The cost is $10 per person.

The evening also will feature a talk and book signing by Christine McDonald, a former convict and prostitute who lost her vision after she decided to seek treatment for drug addiction. She authored “Cry Purple,” a book about her life. She has two young children and now works as an advocate to stop human trafficking.
