A 31-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of a Linn County woman and her son.
Family members reported Betty Mcnabb, 87, and Kenneth Mcnabb, 65, missing late Friday evening, and a check of their home in rural Pleasanton by the local sheriff’s office turned up a crime scene, the KBI said in a written statement. Early Monday, they said their whereabouts were unknown.
“The KBI has had agents and a crime scene reconstruction team in the area since Saturday pursuing leads,” the KBI said Monday morning.
On Saturday afternoon, the agency and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office found a person of interest wanted in the case who is being held for questioning, it said.
The KBI joined the investigation around 10 a.m. Saturday.
Later Monday, David Mcnabb of Pittsburg was charged with second-degree murder, criminal desecration of a body and interference with a law enforcement officer, according to a KBI news release.
The Overland Park Police Department, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the investigation, the KBI said.
Pleasanton is about 60 miles south of Overland Park, near the Kansas-Missouri state line.
