A Wichita man pleaded guilty to two felony charges this week for a July 5 fatal hit-and-run accident that killed a man and seriously injured a boy who were riding a horse.
George Childers, 26, will be sentenced April 2 on one count of leaving the scene of an injury accident and one count of interference with law enforcement. He had been scheduled to stand trial this week.
Wichita police said Childers left the scene after driving a Mercury Grand Marquis into a horse being ridden by 49-year-old Lloyd Ferguson and 6-year-old Eddie Caddell on 21st Street near Piatt.
Wichita police said a Crime Stoppers tip nearly a month later led them to the Grand Marquis, which was parked in a garage in the 2900 block of North Coolidge. The tipster received a $1,000 reward from Crime Stoppers of Wichita-Sedgwick County.

The horse had to be euthanized after the accident.
