Prosecutors rested their case Monday in the first-degree murder trial of a suspect in the Aug. 4, 2012, death of a man whose throat was slashed in his home at 830 S. Erie.
The defendant, Jerry Thach, 24, is charged with holding the victim’s feet down as a co-defendant, Caesar Louis, 25, cut the victim’s throat with a large hunting knife.
Louis was sentenced to more than 28 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.
Wichita police said the victim, Pheng Xiong, 35, was killed because he had made comments that the suspects, who were members of a street gang, thought were disrespectful.
Defense lawyer Alice Osburn said she planned to present no evidence.
