Police seek second suspect in fatal Broadway shooting

Police are looking for a second suspect in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man at a North Broadway apartment earlier this week.

Police are looking for a second suspect in the shooting death of a 23-year-old man at a North Broadway apartment earlier this week.

Erick Salazar died Wednesday morning only a few hours after being shot in the head during an argument at a fourplex at 1835 N. Broadway, police have said. Manuel Rivas, 23, was arrested later Wednesday morning a few blocks from the shooting scene. He was charged Friday with second-degree murder and his bond was set at $500,000.

Wichita police Capt. Brent Allred said police are now looking for a 38-year-old man who forced his way into the apartment’s back door with Rivas. One shot was fired in the altercation that followed with Salazar, he said, and investigators aren’t sure yet which of the two suspects fired the gun.

There were numerous people inside the apartment at the time of the shooting shortly after midnight on Wednesday, Allred said, and police are looking for two more people who witnessed what happened.

Salazar, who police say is a documented gang member, is the 14th homicide victim of the year in Wichita.
