A U.S. District Court jury ruled Tuesday that a Wichita police officer did not use excessive force when he arrested a Wichita woman in 2007.
Rowana Riggs said in a lawsuit against the officer, Christian Cory, that he threw her to the ground and used a stun gun on her after a car stop near 13th and Minnesota on April 9, 2007. At the time of her arrest, the lawsuit said, Riggs was 49, suffered from arthritis and was recovering from cancer surgery.
Lawyers for Cory said the officer was justified in using force after Riggs resisted his efforts to arrest her.
