Cross two names off the list of top gang members created this week by Wichita police.
One was found in a California jail, Capt. Brent Allred said, while the other turned himself in to authorities late Wednesday afternoon because “he was tired of seeing his photograph in the media.”
Police learned Ruben Gonzalez is incarcerated in California, Allred said. The second gang member now in custody is Treylis Presley Jr., who walked into Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office work release office on Harry and Clifton and surrendered.
“He was tired of seeing his photograph in the media, knew that he was wanted and decided to turn himself in,” Allred said.
Presley on Thursday was charged in Sedgwick County District Court with aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer and fleeing or eluding police on May 25. The 23-year-old remained in Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond Thursday and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Aug. 15. Presley is also held on a state parole violation, jail records show. He has hired private counsel.
The website link showing the most-wanted gang members prompted a number of promising tips, Allred said.
“I’m very pleased with the response we’re getting from the community,” he said.
Police officials plan to maintain the top most-wanted gang members list for a while and are looking into lists for robberies and sex crimes, Allred said.
