Prosecutors on Wednesday charged two teenagers with rape in a case involving the sexual assault of a 76-year-old woman.
John Edward Thompson Jr., 18, was charged with rape, aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated burglary, said district attorney spokesman Dan Dillon.
A 17-year-old also was charged with one count each of rape, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. Prosecutors plan to make a motion that he be charged as an adult, Dillon said.
Also on Wednesday, Jessica Dawn Ward, 22, was charged with two counts of aiding a felon. A preliminary hearing for her and Thompson was set for June 26.
Wichita police said the victim, a 76-year-old woman, woke up about 5 a.m. Friday to the sound of two male intruders, who kicked in a door at her house near Lincoln and George Washington Boulevard. At least one of the intruders was armed with a gun, police said.
After one of the intruders raped the woman, the two left with a couple of televisions and jewelry, police said. Police found the suspects at a house less than three blocks away, which is owned by the woman thought to be Thompson’s girlfriend.
