Two brothers have been charged with murder in the death of a 29-year-old man on the third day of 2013, authorities said.
Shawn Malik Brown, 20, and Jerone Hakien Brown, 19, are charged with killing Adji Tampone at his residence in southeast Wichita, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. They made their first court appearances related to the charges on Thursday.
A friend of Tampone’s was unable to reach him early on the morning of Jan. 3, so she went to Tampone’s house at 732 S. Rutan, Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile said. She found Tampone dead in the living room of the residence, which is northeast of Lincoln and Hillside.
Tampone had been shot once. Investigators think he was killed sometime between Dec. 31 and Jan. 2, Ojile said. One of the Brown brothers knew Tampone, he said.
The brothers were already jailed on other charges when they were charged with Tampone’s murder, Ojile said. Both men are being held on $1 million bond, with their preliminary hearings set for May 16.
