Wichita police think the same armed robber who took off in an SUV from Towne East mall, after ordering the driver to get out, later used the same vehicle to hold up a bakery clerk, police said Friday.

In the first incident, about 12:40 p.m. Thursday, a woman was in the driver’s seat of an SUV near the Dillard’s employee parking area off East Kellogg when a man walked up, pointed a handgun and told her to get out and onto the ground. The woman was not injured. He got into the vehicle and drove off.

He was described as being a white man, maybe in his 20s, about 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall.

Later Thursday afternoon, about 2:20 p.m., police think the same robber went into a bakery in the 5700 block of East Lincoln. The robber pointed a handgun at a woman at the register and took cash. He was described as being a white man about 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 160 pounds, with dark hair, and wearing a black stocking cap, blue shirt, khaki pants and white tennis shoes.

The vehicle he used was possibly a 2008 purple Chevy Trailblazer.
