Sedgwick County District Judge Anthony J. Powell will be sworn in as a judge for Kansas’ appeals court at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Supreme Court courtroom in Topeka.
Powell was pointed by Gov. Sam Brownback to succeed Richard Greene, the former chief judge of the 13-member court who died Oct. 7.
The ceremony will be webcast live from the courtroom. The public can watch by visiting www.kscourts.org and clicking on “Watch Supreme Court Live.” Court of Appeals Chief Judge Thomas Malone will preside at the ceremony.
Powell has been a district court judge since 2003.
A graduate of Washburn University’s law school, he previously worked for the Wichita law firm of Martin and Churchill, where his practice emphasized business and employment law.
