A Sedgwick County inmate being housed at the Osborne County Jail has escaped, and he was last seen in the Augusta area, authorities said Tuesday.

Joseph A. Mosier, 25, escaped from a fenced-in exercise yard sometime before 10 p.m. Sunday, according to Osborne County Jail staff, said an e-mailed statement the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office released Tuesday. The staff didn’t detect the disappearance until a head count around 10 p.m.

According to the news release, investigators suspect Mosier of stealing a truck in Osborne. Augusta police recovered the truck Monday, and a few blocks from where the stolen truck was found, a car was stolen. It is described as a dark blue 1996 Ford Thunderbird with a Butler County tag of 943CVZ.

Mosier originally had been in Sedgwick County custody on charges of burglary, criminal damage to property, attempted theft and parole violations, the Sheriff’s Office said. He is now wanted on warrants for aggravated escape and auto theft.

He was last seen Monday afternoon in the Augusta area, and he has friends and family in the Augusta and Wichita area, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The news release described him as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 150 pounds, with red hair and blue eyes.

Authorities asked that anyone with information about his whereabouts call 911 or the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, 800-874-6449. Information about him also can be left with Crime Stoppers, 316-267-2111, or by texting to CRIMES (274637) and entering TIP217 along with the message, or by going to the Crime Stoppers website,
