A 53-year-old Wichita woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the Dec. 27 stabbing of a 22-year-old neighbor, records show.
Kimberly K. King is being held in jail on a $1 million bond in the killing of Jessica Baldwin, court documents say. The charges were filed in Sedgwick County District Court on Monday.
Both women were residents at an apartment building at 4925 Shadybrook, near 21st and Oliver. A sign outside the building identifies it as Shadybrook Senior Apartments.
According to a police report, a 54-year-old woman found Baldwin in her apartment with fatal injuries around 10:30 p.m. Dec. 27. Authorities said she had multiple stab wounds to her chest. An ambulance crew took her to Wesley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 11 that night.
In a financial affidavit King filled out in applying for a court-appointed attorney, she said she was unemployed and receiving government assistance.
King’s public defender, Sharon Barnett, declined to comment Friday.
Baldwin’s obituary notice in The Eagle said, “She was taken too soon and tragically, but is now at peace with her mom.”
