Charges have been filed against suspects in each of the two homicides that occurred in Wichita last weekend.
Hakeem Jackson, 28, was charged in Sedgwick County District Court with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old George Vasquez Jr. shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday at 827 N. Wabash. Vasquez was shot once in the head when he answered a knock at the door, police have said.
Officers responding to the scene found Jackson in the front yard arguing with the two men who lived at the house. Jackson was also charged with criminal possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $1 million and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 27.
Dat Nguyen, 29, was charged with one count of second-degree murder in the stabbing death early Sunday morning of 27-year-old Tan Nguyen in the 2000 block of South White Oak. The two Nguyens are not related, police have said.
The stabbing occurred during a fight that police say Tan Nguyen began with an associate of the suspect. Dat Nguyen’s bond was also set at $1 million, and his preliminary hearing is slated for Dec. 27.
