Wichita police have arrested suspects in two recent robberies at Wichita financial institutions, including a Monday night holdup at the Intrust Bank branch inside the Dillons store at 21st and Maize Road.
Lt. Joe Schroeder said the suspect in that case, identified in arrest records as David D. Spenst, 45, was arrested Wednesday afternoon at a restaurant in downtown Wichita by detectives following up on tips they received after pictures of the robber were circulated by police. Police at the scene said the robber carried a handgun and indicated that he had a bomb.
Schroeder said the second suspect, Dejuan A Bell, 25, was arrested Monday in connection with the March 31 robbery at the Credit Union of America at 10222 E. Harry. Police said three Credit Union employees were sprayed with mace during that robbery.
The robbery happened shortly before 6 p.m. Monday when a man carrying a handgun robbed the bank, police said.
The robbery was reported to emergency dispatchers at 5:53 p.m.
At first, Wichita police responded to what they considered a holdup alarm at the Dillons, said Sgt. Drew Seiler, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
