Three arrested in South Erie death; police seek fourth suspect

Three men have been arrested and police are looking for a fourth suspect in the killing of a man in his south Wichita bedroom earlier this week.

Three men have been arrested and police are looking for a fourth suspect in the killing of a man in his south Wichita bedroom earlier this week.

The homicide of 35-year-old Pheng Xiong is gang-related and appears to be a retaliation for a clash of some sort in May, Lt. Randy Reynolds said Thursday.

Two of the three men arrested Wednesday are 24 and the third is 22, Reynolds said. Authorities are searching for Rathanak Chea, 31.

Xiong was found by his roommate at 830 S. Erie shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, authorities have said. He suffered a “very large laceration” to the side of his neck, a police report stated.

While Xiong was not a gang member, two of the three men arrested and Chea are documented gang members, Reynolds said.

Police are still looking for the woman who picked up Xiong’s roommate at a Dollar General store near Lincoln and George Washington Boulevard on Saturday morning and dropped her off near Douglas and Seneca, Reynolds said.

The woman who picked up the roommate is not considered a suspect, Reynolds said earlier this week. Police just want to talk to her as they piece together information in the case.

Xiong is the 15th homicide victim of the year in Wichita.
