A Wichita Heights High School graduate has died after being shot Saturday morning in Columbia, Mo.
Columbia police said Aaron Hobson, 22, sustained gunshot wounds to the chest.
A news release said police responded at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday to a Break Time convenience store in Columbia after a report that several people were trespassing on the lot. Officers found multiple cars and people on the lot and then heard gunshots.
Police spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said investigators determined Hobson was from Mission. Hobson was a 2007 Heights graduate.
Never miss a local story.
Jamil Benjamin, a friend of Hobson's, told The Eagle that he, Hobson and another friend were in Columbia to see Hobson's cousin, University of Missouri football player Trey Hobson, play in a game against the University of Oklahoma.
Benjamin said they had been at a party and stopped at the convenience store afterward. He said Hobson pulled into the lot two cars behind him. Benjamin said he heard commotion and saw someone approaching Hobson and then heard gunshots.
He said Hobson's vehicle rolled slowly toward his, and he jumped in with Hobson, slapped him in the face to try to wake him and told him to be strong.
Benjamin, a New Jersey native attending Johnson County Community College, said Hobson had attended Kansas City Community College but was planning to finish school in Texas.
Wieneke said the investigation was in the early stages and the police department's major crimes unit was working with the forensic evidence team.
