A two-year-old boy is in police protective custody following an argument his parents had that turned violent.
Police were called to the 2000 block of South Exchange Tuesday afternoon after receiving a Sedgwick County 911 call that there had been a disturbance and shots had been fired, according to Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, spokeswoman for the Wichita Police Department.
When police arrived, they located a 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman with their child. During the police investigation, Woodrow said, the officers learned the couple were married and having an argument.
While the couple were arguing, the man retrieved a fire arm, which placed the woman in fear of her safety. The couple struggled over the gun and the woman took possession of it and then fired one round at the ground in the front doorway of the residence while the man and child were inside, Woodrow said.
Police then booked the man on suspicion of aggravated assault and the woman was booked for criminal discharge of a firearm and aggravated child endangerment.
There were no injuries reported.
