Extension agent Bob Neier, who has been a leader in horticultural education and garden events in Wichita since 1989, will retire at the end of June.
Neier said Tuesday that he wants to do other things, especially volunteer. He is the K-State extension agent for ornamental horticulture in Sedgwick County, overseeing the master gardeners and giving advice on trees, shrubs and flowers through Wichita’s climatic ups and downs. The local extension also has a second horticulture agent, Rebecca McMahon, who specializes in edibles and turfgrass.
Last year, Kansas State Research & Extension recognized Neier for 35 years of service. He was an extension agent in Reno County before coming to Sedgwick County in 1989.
Sedgwick County Extension director Angela Jones said that a local extension board would work with K-State to talk about program needs, with a search to fill the position expected to begin in May.
