The American Red Cross and Star Lumber and Supply are hosting a free disaster preparedness fair this weekend in west Wichita.
Those in attendance can create a home evacuation plan for fires, build emergency kits, sign up for free smoke alarms and sit in emergency response vehicles, including a fire truck.
The event goes from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Star Lumber’s west location, 325 S. West St.
“By preparing together for home fires, tornadoes, and other disasters, we can ensure families are safer and our communities stronger,” Michelle Jantz, Executive Director of the Midway Kansas Red Cross office, said in a news release.
Star Lumber employees, in connection with the event, also are assembling 3,700 kits, which will be distributed by the Red Cross to disaster victims in the region.
