The Alzheimer’s Association of Central and Western Kansas is teaming up with the Douglas Design District to raise money and awareness during June, which is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month.
Their main fundraiser, Ale to #EndAlz, runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hopping Gnome, 1710 E. Douglas.
A firkin, or small cask, of specialty beer will be tapped for the evening, and all of those proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Stacey Ward Lattin, a Hopping Gnome owner, said firkin pints will be sold for $6 until the cask runs outs.
Never miss a local story.
The firkin typically yields around 80 pints, Ward Lattin said, and sells out in a matter of hours.
This is the first year for the event, but Ward Lattin said the brewery wants to hold something annually in the future.
Other Douglas Design District companies participating in the awareness month are:
▪ The Anchor, 1109 E. Douglas, will donate $4 from all Classic Aviation Cocktails sold in June.
▪ The Monarch, 579 W. Douglas, will donate $1 from all Lemoncello Martinis sold in June.
▪ Reverie Coffee Roasters, 2611 E. Douglas, will donate $1 from all Royal Rita Lemonades sold in June.
▪ Abode Venue, 1330 E. Douglas, and Wichita Wood Flooring Specialists, 3203 E. Douglas, are accepting donations all month long.
Johnny Freedom, a local artist, also designed T-shirts for the cause. They are available for pre-order through a $25 donation at act.alz.org.
