Authorities on Friday evening issued an Amber Alert for three children discovered missing after a woman’s body was found at the scene of a house fire at 321 N. Ash earlier in the day.
William Thompson III, 12; Ethan Thompson, 5; and Damien Wright, 2, were last seen Friday in Wichita, according to information released on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s website. They may be with 29-year-old Dane A. Wright, who is a suspect in the case.
Wright is a white male with balding hair, hazel eyes and a 6-foot-tall, 158-pound build. He was last seen leaving the house in a white 2001 Ford Focus four-door with Kansas license plate 718 JHX.
The Wichita Police Department considers the woman’s death to be suspicious, according to the alert. She has not been identified, but the three children are somehow associated with her.
Anyone who knows Wright or the children’s whereabouts or who spots the vehicle is asked to call 911. Tips can also be left with the Wichita Police Department at 316-383-4661.
Deputy Fire Chief Brad Crisp said Friday it is unclear whether the fire caused the fatality. Crisp said authorities are looking into the cause of death and cause of the fire.
He said a 911 call was made at around 12:30 p.m. to report a fire. When crews arrived, Crisp said, smoke was coming from the house, near I-135 and Second Street.
“We did find the scene of the fire relatively quickly, but during the search and rescue effort we did locate a body,” Crisp said.
Investigators think the body is one of the home’s occupants. Crisp said the house is likely a rental property with multiple tenants.
Investigators were working to locate other tenants, he said.
More information will likely be released Saturday, Crisp said.
