The Wichita Police Department’s eagle mascot has a name.
Sergeant Justice is the moniker for the department’s new mascot, which was unveiled in early May, according to a tweet sent Wednesday afternoon by the department.
The grimacing raptor stands more than 6 feet tall and wears a black vest emblazoned with “POLICE” on its back and chest. It mirrors the bald eagle that appears on the badges worn by Wichita officers.
Sergeant Justice will be making the rounds and posing for pictures at this year’s Riverfest, which runs Friday through June 10 in downtown Wichita. The department gave people their first look at the eagle mascot on May 2 and asked for public input through its Facebook page for a name.
Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said more than 100 members of the community submitted suggestions with several volunteering the Justice name.
