Updated 11:32 a.m.: Derby police say a fight between two men inside a local QuikTrip led to a stabbing that sent one of them to a Wichita hospital. The man who was stabbed suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released, the department said an e-mailed news release late Tuesday morning.
Authorities still are looking for the man suspected of carrying out the stabbing, which happened at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday. He fled the QuikTrip, 1430 N. Nelson Dr., after the altercation, which police think originally started at a local club and continued at the convenience store after he arrived in a 1990s model white Mercury Cougar driven by a woman.
Police did not say what the fight was about.
The man police are looking for is described as black, in his 30s, 5-feet-10 to 6-feet tall and weighing 160 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a red, white and blue shirt, light-colored jeans and black tennis shoes at the time of the stabbing, according to the news release.
Anyone who knows the man’s identity or whereabouts is asked to call the Derby Police Department at 316-788-1557 or Derby Crime Stoppers at 316-788-8477. Police say the public should not approach or try to capture the man because he is considered armed and dangerous.
