Overnight work on K-96 from I-135 and Webb Road in northeast Wichita will start Tuesday.

A very thin overlay of bonded asphalt is being placed on that stretch of road. The work is expected to be completed within two weeks, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Overnight construction will close the southbound I-135 ramp to eastbound K-96 from 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday to 6 a.m. the following day. The northbound I-135 ramp to eastbound K-96 will be closed from 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday.

Overlay work on K-96 – one lane at a time – will start on subsequent nights at 7 p.m. All lanes and ramps will be opened by 6 a.m. the next day.

The project is part of a 10-year, $8-billion highway preservation plan approved by the Legislature in 2010.
