The Wichita Downtown Development Corp. will unveil plans for revitalizing the Douglas Avenue underpass connecting downtown to the city’s entertainment district at a public open house Tuesday.

The open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at the WDDC Design & Innovation Center, 505 E. Douglas in Wichita. According to a news release, the overall goal of the revitalization project is to transport the underpass into “an inviting connector between Old Town, Union Station and the core of” downtown.

Ideas used to craft the design were gathered from a steering committee, two public meetings and from survey data posted on the city of Wichita’s website, www.wichita.gov.

The WDDCrecently received a $75,000 grant from the Knight Foundation Fund of the Wichita Community Foundation for the project, according to the news release.
