Wichita police are investigating a stabbing and car chase that happened shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday in west Wichita.
It started with a fight outside Rocco’s Sport Bar and Night Club, near West Street and Central, according to Sgt. Ed Brower, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department. A 29-year-old man was stabbed in the neck by a 22-year-old man, he said.
According to witnesses, the 22-year-old man then tried to flee the scene and the 29-year-old man gave chase, ramming the younger man’s car with his own vehicle several times, trying to get the suspect’s car stopped. An unidentified pedestrian was reportedly struck and knocked into the air but left the scene, Brower said.
The 29-year-old’s car was no longer driveable, police said, so he abandoned his car in the 4200 block of West Central and climbed into a friend’s vehicle, a silver Ford Focus, and the two continued to chase the younger man east on Central.
The driver of the Ford Focus then tried to make a turn, in the rain, at Zoo Boulevard and Central and slid into the curb, wrecking his car.
The two jumped out of the Ford Focus and ran to some nearby railroad tracks. The younger man then chased them in his car and blew a tire, Brower said.
From there, everyone fled the scene, abandoning their vehicles.
Wichita police officers were able to track down the stabbing victim, the 29-year-old, and take him to a local hospital for treatment for a stab wound and a cut.
