Jason Gleason, who authorities say was involved a shootout with the Kansas Highway Patrol following a chase, will make his first court appearance at 8:30 a.m. Friday in Saline District Court in Salina.

He is also a suspect in Tuesday morning’s armed robbery of the First Bank in Chase, although an FBI spokeswoman said Thursday charges in the bank robbery hadn’t been filed yet. State charges are often processed before federal charges are filed.

Gleason, 30, was arrested Tuesday night on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, four counts of kidnapping and an outstanding warrant.

Except for the outstanding warrant, all those charges resulted from a shootout with a highway patrol officer near Gypsum and law enforcement officers finding a woman and three children in Gleason’s vehicle. He was arrested following a three-hour manhunt on foot.

The woman and one child were injured by gunfire, the KBI said.

Gleason had been paroled in June after serving more than eight years for four counts of aggravated robbery and three counts of attempted aggravated robbery as a result of an incident that occurred in Hutchinson in 2003.

He was arrested last Friday on two charges and was released about 1 a.m. Saturday after posting bond. One charge was for failure to appear in Hutchinson’s Municipal Court on a charge of harassment by phone, a court official said. The other charge was for trafficking contraband in a correctional facility, according to jail records.
