El Dorado-based Children's Advocacy & Rights Foundation is planning to build a five-bedroom farm-style home in northwest Andover that will primarily serve children from Butler, Greenwood and Elk counties.
* Why? So child victims who have to be taken out of homes in those counties for their protection can be located temporarily in a children's home closer to their rural environment. Those children are now taken to the Wichita Children's Home.
* Total cost of the project is estimated to be $1.5 million to $2 million. Cost of the structure will be about $750,000 to $1 million, with the rest going for such things as furnishings, a security system and possibly setting up an endowment to help support the home during its early stages. About $200,000 has been raised so far, and land has been donated.
* Donations may be sent to SCARF, P.O. Box 967, El Dorado, KS 67042; or go to scarfks.org. For more information, call 316-313-4107.
