The Wichita school district plans to buy several more residential properties near North High School to expand athletic facilities at the school.
School board members are expected to vote Monday on a deal to pay $174,000 for three properties that sit just north of the school, near 15th Street and Arkansas. The district also would pay $7,500 for title insurance and closing costs on the properties.
According to the proposal on Monday's agenda, the district would pay $55,000 for a property at 438 W. 15th St.; $91,500 for one at 1627 N. Sherwood; and $27,500 for one at 1630 N. Sherwood. The amounts include state-mandated moving costs.
In the past two months, the board has purchased 10 other properties in the same area for about $780,000.

Money for the purchases will come from the district's capital outlay fund in conjunction with a $370 million bond issue approved by voters in 2008. Capital money can be spent only on facilities, not on teachers, classroom supplies or other operating expenses.
Plans for outdoor athletic facilities at North call for a turf football field, a track, a practice soccer field, two ball diamonds and tennis courts. They are part of nearly $12.5 million in upgrades planned for the school as part of the bond issue.
