A 51-year-old man was killed late Monday night when his motorcycle was hit by a semi on K-42 in west Wichita, authorities said.
Terry Dishon of Wichita was riding south on K-42 at 11:58 p.m. when his Harley Davidson was hit by a semi turning left onto the highway from May Street, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred a few blocks south of Newman University.
Dishon was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the semi, 60-year-old Floyd Renner of Anthony, was not injured.
The accident was initially reported as a semi striking a pedestrian. Southbound traffic on K-42 was closed at Harry for six hours while the accident was investigated and debris was cleared.
Traffic resumed in the area just before 6:30 a.m., in time for the morning rush hour.
Dishon is at least the ninth person riding a motorcycle to be killed in Wichita this year, according to law enforcement statistics.
