Police say they have no leads and no suspects in the shooting death of Otis Bolden Jr. in southeast Wichita late Monday morning.

Bolden, 21, was shot several times in his bed at about 11:40 a.m. Monday, Lt. Ken Landwehr said.

Wearing only a pair of green boxer shorts, he broke through the bedroom window in an attempt to save his life, stumbled a few hundred feet around the corner of Building 17 at Fox Run Apartments, 1157 S. Webb, and collapsed in a grassy area.

Bolden was transported to Wesley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:26 p.m.

There were no signs of forced entry into apartment 1704, where Bolden lived, Landwehr said. Bolden was a documented gang member and had no known employment, he said.

"We have no description of any suspect at this time," Landwehr said. "There are several witnesses" who saw Bolden break through his ground-floor bedroom window and stagger from the building, Landwehr said, but no one has described a second person who left the apartment.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday morning, Landwehr said.

Bolden was convicted of aggravated assault in 2004 and criminal possession of a firearm by a juvenile two years later.

A gun found in the apartment was not involved in the shooting incident, Landwehr said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 911, the homicide section at 316-268-4181 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

Tips can also be submitted online at www.wsccs.com, or by texting CRIMES (274637) and beginning the message with TIP217.

This is the sixth confirmed homicide in the city this year, Landwehr said, although police suspect a seventh death is likely a homicide, too.
