When it came down to the few remaining questions in the state 5A Scholars Bowl, one question allowed Bishop Carroll Catholic High School to move closer to the title.
"Who was the inspiration for Elton John's 'Candle in the Wind?' "
Theresa Nguyen immediately knew the answer: Marilyn Monroe.
"We won by one question," said Mark Berger, the Bishop Carroll Scholars Bowl coach and a math teacher.

Saturday's state championship marked the third state title for Bishop Carroll in five years.
"We placed second the past two years," Berger said.
Bishop Carroll's team included seniors Jean-Marc Diaz, Robert Sullivan, Alex Johnson, Sarah Linnebur and Nguyen, and junior Sarah Henry.
Andover placed third in the Class 5A state championship.
Other schools in the Wichita area that placed in the 2010 State Scholars Bowl include: The Independent School, which placed second in Class 3A; Circle, which placed second in Class 4A; Wichita East, which placed third in 6A; Douglass, which placed third in 3A; and Maize, which placed fourth in 6A.
