The 17-year-old Southeast High School student who was struck by a bus outside the school Tuesday afternoon was upgraded to fair condition Wednesday at a local hospital.
Police said the accident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. as the bus was turning from a school driveway into the eastbound lanes of Lincoln.
The youth was crossing the driveway when he walked in front of the bus. The driver didn't see the boy, police said, and both sets of axles ran over the teen.
He was taken by ambulance to Wesley Medical Center. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, police spokesman Gordon Bassham said Wednesday.
The 37-year-old woman who was driving the bus was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of investigations by USD 259 and Durham School Services, which has a contract with the district to provide student transportation.
Students on the bus involved in the incident were taken home on another bus.
