An 11-year-old boy was arrested Saturday when police said he and two other children tried to set a vacant apartment unit on fire.
According to police, the boy and two other children, ages 8 and 9, broke into a unit at Remington Park Apartments, near Central and Ridge Road, at about 1:45 p.m.
The children poured lighter fluid on walls and the carpet in an attempt to set the unit on fire, police said.
A neighbor smelled chemicals and discovered what the children were doing, police said. The children fled, and the neighbor contacted the manager, who called 911.

Police found the children later, and took all three in for questioning. The two younger children were released to their parents; the 11-year-old was booked in the juvenile detention center on suspicion of aggravated arson, burglary and criminal damage to property, police said.
