After four decades in practice, physician Richard Guthrie is retiring and closing his practice, MidAmerica Diabetes Associates.
The last day the clinic will see patients is May 22, said Belinda Childs, advanced practice registered nurse and director of clinical and research services at the practice.
The practice has about 12 employees, Childs said.
Guthrie has practiced in Wichita since 1973. He will continue to work with the KU School of Medicine-Wichita, Childs said.
There will be two celebrations of Guthrie’s service to the community that are open to the public. The first will be at 5:30 p.m. April 29, and the second will be at 2 p.m. May 4. Both will take place at MidAmerica Diabetes Associates, 8533 E. 32nd St.
Childs, who has been with the group for 35 years, is creating a practice called Great Plains Diabetes. Guthrie will be the collaborating physician for that group, she said.
The new practice does not yet have an address because it’s in the early planning stages. It will offer rural outreach clinics, education and diabetes support.
