Wesley recognized for being a top organ donor hospital

Wesley Medical Center has been named a top organ donation hospital by the Midwest Transplant Network for 2013, according to a news release.

The Midwest Transplant Network area covers all of Kansas and the western two-thirds of Missouri.

Last year, Wesley had 27 total donors, which resulted in 45 tissue and eye donors and 81 organs. Wesley patients donated 13 lungs – 18 percent more than the expected lung donations for the network.

One tissue donor can save 50 lives, according to the release. There are currently about 1,000 Kansans and 120,000 people across the U.S. awaiting transplants.
